Viva The Storm Riders

The comic series was created in 1989, but I only got to read the first translated issue in 1993. I fell in love with the characters and never failed to get every single issue (this week no. 561) which is published every two weeks.
The series are mostly about these two warriors; Nie Feng (Whispering Wind) and his brother-in-arm Bu Jing Yun (Striding Cloud).
Nie Feng is the goodie-two-shoe of the two. But unfortunately he had inherited madness from his late daddy. So once in a while he went crazy and murdered a lot of people. Shows that sometimes a good guy also needs to blow some steam...
And this is one iconic pose EVERY Storm Riders fan recognize. This was when Striding Cloud went emo after winning the 'Ultimate Sword' from the Grave of Swords Clan.
And here's the Mighty Trio. Nie Feng, Cloud Strider and their recent teacher Wu Ming (No Name).
Here's a shot from an older issue. Wu Ming is creating a swords hurricane to decimate the bad guy in the middle. Now this is the stuff of fantasy :)

I've read a lot of action comics, but I always turn back to the Storm Riders. If you notice the pictures above, they are all hand-drawn by the same guy (Ma Win Shing) and WATER COLOURED! Now that's what I call dedication, even after years and hundreds of issues later.

Take that Marvel!!

I love graphic novels! Some of my favourites happen to be Arkham Asylum (the best batman novel out there!), The Pathfinder and Watchmen. Love the sketches in all three books.

Nothing much i can say than 'i USED to love'em when i was a kid, and that means not anymore. It's not a 'not' but a 'not anymore'..

I'm not much of a comic book guy, but the drawings here are terrific. There's an iPad app that features comics. Fun way to read comics.

Cheers,

Casey

I used to read Raja Rimba religiously (also from Ma Win Shing). It got to a point that the shop uncle would reserve a copy for me and even gave me advanced copies.

Eveline; Graphic novels are too expensive here :( Comic series are more affordable.
The Watchmen movie is so cool!

faizal; Too bad. You missed a lot of things. The development and colouring are more advanced now :)

Casey Freeland; It must be wonderful to have everything in Padrick :)
The iPad phenomenon is a bit slow here, mostly due to the price tag.

Aizan; Used to follow Raja Rimba too, but as it got more senseless (people surviving bombs and bullets etc) I just had to say good bye.
At least in the Pedang Setiawan series, it was unreal from the first.

Great artwork.

I love cursed Heroes, so much better than the totally pure kind.

I never really started reading this sort of thing - more or less limited to Judge Dredd...

Judge Dredd; When are you going to read the Amazing Adventures of Rock Chef? :)

Comic books are no more available in shops around here. I don't know why the people around here are letting that happen. Watchmen was one graphic novel which won my heart. NEVER watch the movie without reading the novel first!

et; I've never seen Watchmen graphic novel before, but I sure love the movie :)
