Viva Le Furet!!

I studied French for two years (1994-95) as it was compulsory for boarding school students to take up a foreign language. It is a beautiful language, but a horror to remember all those grammar things. But what we love most were the songs, and one of the songs is "Il court il court".

Il court, il court, le furet

Le furet du bois, Mesdames,
Il court, il court, le furet,
Le furet du bois joli.

Il est passé par ici,
Il repassera par là.

Il court, il court, le furet
Le furet du bois, Mesdames,
Il court, il court, le furet,
Le furet du bois joli.

My French teacher told us that it was a song about a missing cat, running around the place, and a pretty cat he was too. The singer(s) was supposed to ask people where the cat was. She told us that 15 years ago...

And I googled 15 minutes ago, and I FOUND OUT that 'furet' is actually French for ferret!!! Well, well, well. We've been singing that particular children song for years and thought it was about a cat! And I've never seen an actual ferret all my life until last year. Hurm....

An announcement; My ferret Kaos has finally met his roommate, another sable ferret of 2 months old, named Pingu (yes, after a penguin). I have two ferrets now. Mwa ha ha ha ha!

One Ferret Is Never Enough

I was always wondering when I can have another fuzzy to accompany Kaos, my pet ferret at home. Ferrets are cute, lovable and very very active. My Kaos for instance, always look forward for me to play with him, never bites and would be very bored if left alone for long.

I like male ferrets better, because they are bulkier, bigger than the females. And male ferrets looks more like cats too.

Anyway, this afternoon as I was lazing aroung in the laboratory waiting for students, the guy who gave me Kaos for adoption called. Firstly we talked about my ferret well being, such a responsible breeder he is. Then he asked if I was interested to adopt another male ferret, which is younger than Kaos, who is now 7 months old. He told me that they have 30 ferrets altogether and needed responsible people who know and love ferrets (moi) to care for them.

I jumped to the bait and said yes. Personally I love these fuzzballs and two ferrets is actually better than a lonely one. [Ferrets are so social. Happy ferrets live longer] So my new ferret will arrive this middle of September, somewhat near the Eid.

Will tell Kaos of his new roomie this evening. He'd be delighted to have a friend to brawl with. The cage is big enough for four fuzzies actually.

Ferrets owners / masters will tell you that these mammals are many times better than a cat or a dog in many ways (maybe except the pooping part). And I happily agree with them. :)

Something to think about; Ferrets are the 3rd most popular pets after cats and dogs in the US. But many people do not have any idea how to care for them well enough...

An Outing with My Pet - Ferret Hilton a.k.a. Kaos

I am just back from the night market, with a couple of friends and my ferret. We left Kaos alone in the car as I bought 1.5 kg of gizzard (my fav part of the chicken after the heart) and my friends got some tasty food and drinks for our supper.

We took the foodstuf to a nearby recreational area, spread the food on a bench and took my ferret out from the car for him to roam (on a leash). And as his previous owner told me a long long time ago, a ferret is a chick / kid magnet. Boy, he was right.

Twenty one young boys and six girls touched my ferret tonight. Several more just watched from afar, either too scared or their parents wouldn't allow them to come nearer. And people do ask what animal was it. All of them never heard of a ferret, or its closest domestic cousin, the civet. I predicted that there are only four ferrets in this state. You see, ferrets are VERY costly here. Though they are exteremely cute and lovable, ferrets are not for beginners.

They need a lot of attention. Eat high quality cat food (expensive). Only a very huge cage is suitable. Two or three hours of playtime daily. Etc. A ferret is not a cat or a small dog. Our local vet admitted that he never held one before (so I NEED to pray my Kaos is always healthy).

Cons aside... this little mammal is the BEST pet I ever invested in. He's funny and cuddly, very active and curious. As I talked to my friends, Kaos never tire of sniffing around, padding towards children who were so fascinated with him. He might feel like Paris Hilton, amongst the paparazzi. Ha ha ha ha ha.

This is a very joyful evening for me and Kaos. The only thing that marred my happy feeling was when my friends telling me about a woman and her boyfriend who were walking behind me while I was playing with my ferret. She was the only person among many who made a disgusted face, complete with the "Eeeewww! Eeeewww!" soundtrack. My friends knew if I saw her, I'd spit fire and poison to the ignorant bitch and her poor excuse of a lover, so they kept quiet as the couple walked past behind me. They were right, I'd chase the stupid duo around town if I have to.

Anyway, here's a pic of me and Kaos before we return back. It's good to gloat once in a while, non?

Transformers 2 Sucks and My Ferret In Danger

Blackout @ Incinerator (WE LOVE YOU!)

I spit on Michael bay and his cohorts! Who made the script for 'Revenge of the Fallen'? Megatron is the ultimate ruler of the Decepticons and there is no one above him. Yet in the f**king movie, he BOWED to another robot. This is a very huge WTF moment in my life!!

And what's the deal about high-lighting Optimus Prime and Bumblebee only? What happened to characters development? Two and a half hours of sheer bam-bam-boom-arghhh-Optimus-is-dead-and-he-lives-again-and-the-world-is-saved-yet-again-by-Autobots. I call this unfair. The Decepticons were like a gazillion of them against a few rabble of soldiers and Autobots - and they LOST?! Remember the opening scene of Transformers 1? Blackout, the deliciously evil Decepticon helicopter single handedly devastated an ENTIRE army base!! So what the hell happened in the 2nd movie when he died just like a crushed snail?!!

Disappointed is only a mild description of how I felt.

And I was a fool to take my ferret out on an extended walk ('walkies' as Kaos would say it) to 7-11 this evening for ice-cream. People gawked and pointed at US!! Four people I never knew stopped me to ask what animal I am carrying and another two strangers on motorcycles followed me back home! I felt greatly molested! (Kaos was having a ball because he got to taste ice-cream for the first time). And now I have nightmares about my ferret being kidnapped by interested parties. Arghhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!!!

On a lighter note, three persons called and expressed their love for me today (not the sexual kind please, just simple adoration). This made my day. :)

What My Pets Told Me

Boss is KING!! - Kaos

Artemis II Kikuraides @ 'Kiki' the female domestic long hair calico cat.

Life is boring and you are not interesting enough for me to come whenever you call. Even though sometimes I come and paw you, it does not mean I totally dig you - I am just plain bored. You only function to feed me and change my litter. You are beneath me and nothing you can do amuses me. Because I am CAT and you shalt obey.

Kaos the sable male ferret (neutered).

Boss is great and me worship Boss! Boss is always interesting and me like to lick Boss! Boss give yummy food and me love walkies! Boss tickle me and me bite Boss! Me cage is bigger than Kiki! Boss clean me poop and pee! Me and Boss hate Kiki! Boss is GREAT!

Rosy the Chilean Rose female tarantula.

.... when are you going to feed me you sadistic mammal?

And the many many tropical fish in the aquarium.

Swim. Swim. Bump (against the glass). Swim. Bump. Bump. Swim. Eat. Eat. Poop.

Adventures of Kiki and Kaos 3

"Oi Kiki, look at me on the cover of teh book Boss read!"

"That's not you. It's another ferret."

"Jealous. Just jealous."

"Would you like me to bury my claws in your back like last time?" Kiki unsheathing her claws for show.

"Bring it on sister! Bring it!" Kaos starts his war-dance.

"Hoy you two! Keep it down or I'll throw you both in jail (cage)."

The Adventures of Kiki and Kaos 2

"Oi Boss! Me cannot get to pummel Kiki with teh leash on-lah" Kaos tugging the leash in futile.

"Why you want to beat her up? She did nothing bad to you," I answered sleepily, it was a rather hot afternoon.

"Stay away from me, you smelly and impolite animal!" hissed Kiki from under the sofa.

"Oi Boss! There she do again. She say me smelly and impolite."

"But you ARE smelly and impolite."

There was a chuckle from under the sofa.

"You hurt my feeling Boss," Kaos laid flat on the carpet, pedalling his body with his hind legs.

"Oh just grow up already you two. And Kiki, you don't smell like a bouquet of roses either."

"That was uncalled for," sniffed the cat from under the sofa.

Of e-Books and Real Books

Many blogs that I am following now mentioned about books and of course about what to do with them - read. Books come in many types, size and volumes. I love books and most of the books I had during my secondary school were stolen from friends and the library. Ok, I am someone who admits his wrong-doings because it is the manly thing to do. What's wrong to acquire the books nobody read? (or in my friends case, they finished reading and then just put them under their desk).

I read and hear about e-books and free digital books online with envy. I love good books, but I love FREE books better. I have three bookcases full of books (stolen and honestly acquired) at home and there is no more space for new books.

But seriously, a good book is like your best friend. It keeps you company and amuses you.

Erm... I was looking for this particular book; Ferrets For Dummies - which is said to be the best and most popular ferret book in the market. I REALLY want this book.
But OF COURSE this book cannot be found anywhere in ol Malacca town, heck, even Borders and the great Kinokuniya of KL! I was angry, I was lost, I almost gave up.

And then I remembered my favourite past time a long time ago before I terminated my internet-line service. Downloading video torrents... yes, stealing from the net and then sharing them with the world - ONLINE PIRACY. Well, last night I try searching for this ferret book torrent and voila! There are many of them online, free for the taking - the full version.

It took me less than 5 minutes to download, and I was happily reading the 400 odd pages (using Acrobat) moments later. Why oh why I didn't do this earlier? Silly me.

But I still prefer real books than e-books. You can touch the pages, riffle through it, thumb the pages, smell the paper and even throw it away if it contains crap. It's too much a hassle to scroll the digital pages and change the size view for a comfortable read.

Ok, I pledge never to use the power of internet piracy to download books I don't really want. (You believe me?)

Which do you prefer? Digital or paper?

The Sunset and The Chick Magnet

Yesterday evening I went to the beach with a friend to watch the sunset. Haven't been to the beach for quite some time and it was rather peaceful there, although a bit crowded.  Many people who attended the beach were actually patrons to the many seafood restaurants nearby. I was not in any mood for a meal,  even though I love fish very much.

And I bought Kaos along, looking very handsome with his leash. :) Many young people, especially girls approached us and vexing me by asking the same question; "Is that an otter?" People! Surely you have seen otters on the tv, though ferrets and otters are indeed cousins. Oh the price of fame to be paid by having a rare pet (I only knew 3 other ferret masters in Malacca).

While letting Kaos dig the sand to his heart content, my friend and I spent the time chatting, while waiting for the sun to set. It was not going to be a spectacular blood red phenomena (I was hoping) because the weather was indeed rather fair that evening. Well, to the sea to watch the sunset I went, and a sunset I will watch.

The sun looked like a huge yellow pearl, or some expensive bead, or even maybe a Dragonball :) See what I mean about the weather? Not even a cloud in the sky! It was an enjoyable and peaceful visit. Kaos was happy to be at the beach for the first time and I was happy to get some photos for my blog, Flickr and forums.

Oh, and we had lai-chee kang ABC after that. Fantastic taste. (Too dark for a picture)

Adventures of Kiki and Kaos 1

"Oi Boss. How come you got me in this harness and not teh durn cat?" my ferret Pandemonium @ Pandy asked me while I was busy electrocuting myself on the couch (for health sake). "Do you love her more than me, ah?!"

"Nope."

"Then why?" jinggling his bell on the harness by jumping up and down.

"Because I am not a destructive animal like you, and plus, I am litter trained," murmured Kiki from under a couch.

"Oi it's only a bit of poo! Not like teh Boss cannot clean up after me, eh? And have you thunk me a new name yet? You promised me you know," those cute ferretty eyes boring into mine.

"How about Kaos? The original Fifth Horsemen. He left before they became famous and got the Apocalypse gig. Very few people knew about this."

"Wow. Me like teh name very much. Oi Kiki, now you call me Kaos, ok?" the ferret-formerly-known-as-Pandemonium addressed the couch.

"Whateveeeeer."
My ferret Kaos being curious all over my stuff. He is a blur!
