The Shiny Pen For 2010

Look at the SHINY pen! (I feel like a magpie).
I needed something to fill this pseudo-hollow in me... (or in short; I needed something to make me happy) this new year. So I went window shopping at Parkson's (opposite the one shown below) with a friend.

Visited the Toys Department (always the first stop for me) but nothing interesting or new on the shelves (at least for a 31 year old man-child). Next stop; Stationery Department, which is just next to the Toys.

Oh wow! They got a whole slew of new fountain pens! On sale, too. But nobody was at the counter.

As I oogled at the latest patterns of writing masterpieces, my friend nudged and told me the nearest security guard was giving us the eye. I must admit that we didn't dress to impress yesterday. My clothes... were really faded, from frequent wear, as I rarely go shopping for new shirts. Well, it's not like I want to break the glass and steal stuff.

"YOU! Come here." I pointed to the sales-help who was busy unwrapping boxes, reasonably close to the said interested guard. I pointed to three fountain pens; a Lamy, a Cross and a Parker. I love Sheaffer's, but I already got a good fine-tipped one at home.

It took me a quarter of an hour to choose among the three. I've already stolen a Lamy a long time ago... and Lamy makes good PLASTIC fountain pens. The Cross, unfortunately does not come in medium or fine tips. I chose the Parker; which was SO SHINY!!!

"Let me test this pen."
The boy obediently pushed a Parker's blue inkwell towards me.
I pumped some ink into the pen and gave it a go. Not bad.
"Ok, I'll have this."

And then the GOLDEN FEW SECONDS of the boy's life began...
"Do you know how to fill the ink, sir?"

I looked at the boy. I looked at the pen in his hands.
"Wow. You must be really dumb to be stuck working here... Didn't you just witness me putting ink into that pen from that inkwell?" I pointed to the guilty bottle of ink.

The boy blushed red.
My friend behind me laughed.
The security guard who was hovering behind us immediately took off somewhere else.

"And if you are still paying attention, I want a bottle of black Sheaffer ink. From the glass counter, not from under the cabinet. Parker makes good pen, but lousy inks."

:) It is nice to make people FEEL your NEW YEAR SPIRIT (vicious and reprimanding).

HAPPY BELATED NEW YEAR!!

You're mean. Understandably so. But mean nonetheless.

Nice pen. I've never owned a fountain pen myself. I wouldn't even know where to get one in town. I am very curious though. I may go find one after your post.

Thanks,

SLC

As I'm sure you know, I use nothing but fountain pens. I admire your choice and your fine way of putting idiot sales help in their place.

I dream of doing that...but my wife would probably box my ears.

Aizan; He had it coming. I am not mean, only vicious when meeting idiots.

SLC; ... journal writers ALWAYS use fountain pens to write. The writing looks good on a thick page, maybe the living sense of calligraphy got to do with it. :)

Try it, you might love it.

Radio N; What brand do you use? You are a NICE guy, do not be tempted by the Dark Side. :)

I have 3 Parker's (a 51, 45, and a newer Shiny one) 1 Lamy, 3 Rotring Core's, 1 Libelle, 1 Retro 51, and a few others that I like to use.

The Lamy Safari that my wife gave me for my birthday recently is my current everyday writer. It's a great plastic pen.

Radio N; Wow! You have more pens than I. :) Do you have other guys using fountain pens around you? I think I am the only one in my housing estate and work. lol

Tenchi; Penakut! I never have that accident. Maybe with cheap ones, yes.

A couple of college students have started using them after seeing mine, and realizing that they can be had fairly cheaply.

But, by and large I am the only person who uses one that I know.

I used to like fountain pens but haven't had one in so long. I really don't write by hand anymore, just on the computer. It is SHINY, that's for sure, and I agree with you that sometimes you just want something to perk things up. Glad you found what you weren't even looking for but that turned out to be the right thing.

Radio N; Fountain pens are CHEAP over there?!! Wow.

TechnoBabe; I like shiny things :) As long as it is not girly or too pointy.

I am using three fountain pens at work. Two with black ink, and one with purple.

Vyazz; Miss commenting on your blog too :(

Happy New Year To You.

Do the blogger dance a.k.a. make an entry!

I've paid over $100 US for a fountain pen, and as little as $2.50 for a disposable fountain pen...which is a bizarre notion to me...

The Lamy was priced around $22.00 or so...

Unknown said...

??? Disposable? Weird for me too. What's the point of having a fountain pen if you have to throw it away after use?

I am the sort of guy who passions to taste unused stuff. Currently I'm making my private pv panels. I'm doing it all alone without the help of my staff. I'm using the internet as the only path to acheive this. I encountered a truly amazing website which explains how to create solar panels and so on. The internet site explains all the steps needed for photovoltaic panel building.

I'm not really sure bout how correct the information given there is. If some people over here who have xp with these things can have a peak and give your feedback in the site it would be grand and I'd extremely appreciate it, because I really would love to try solar panel construction.

Tnx for reading this. You people are the best.
