Rockets Rockets All Day Long!

We arrived at the competition place very early, 8.30 am and lazed on the cushions at the planetarium's lobby for half an hour. Twenty five secondary schools were taking part and they promised us that this year's competition will be much faster than last year's because two launchers were being used instead of one.

Erm....

There were two rocket categories for each school; the targetting competition and the parachute competiton. For targetting, each school were allowed to launch their rockets twice to hit an area some 45 metres away (ours were too powerful and went over the target area!). For parachuting; rockets should be able to deploy parachutes and the winner will be the ones with the longest time airborne (great many rockets FAILED to use their parachutes, although ours succeeded in this challenge, but not high enough for me).

The clip above is of my students launching our rocket for the rocket-parachuting competition.

Cool clip. How did your team do? i love the little parachute on the rocket. It was unexpected as I watched the clip before reading your post and I thought 'what the? Was there a tiny person inside that rocket???' Did you manage to hit anyone with yourrockets? Rival school teachers perhaps?

Our team did averagely. We lost the targeting event because our rockets flew over and far from the target area (much to my annoyance because my students did not obey my specific instructions for the launching degrees). And our rocket was the only one that flew over the fence way behind the target area.

I wish next year we can have rocket-bowling. You know, water propelled rockets knocking down bowling pins from afar. :)

Rocket bowling sounds very fun. :)

Vyazz; Rockets are fun to play with. Unfortunately our school's launcher does not launch the rockets high enough for me.

Inkpot; Yes, and that's much more fun that silly targeting an area.

How fun!

Shouldnt they give you something for going over the target area, I mean this means that your students are over performers, genius even, they go where no one else has gone before?? :)

SSQuo; They don't acknowledge us like that. :(
